Our Horse Arena Construction Process

Long's Land Management also provides horse arena construction in the Plant City, Lakeland, and Bartow areas of Florida. Best of all, we can perform any needed land clearing, site prep, or precision land grading work needed, so you’ll only have one contractor and one point of contact throughout construction. The following is our horse arena construction process.

1. Planning and Site Selection:

Assess needs: Determine the type of arena (indoor or outdoor), its size, and intended use (e.g., dressage, jumping, training).

Site selection: Choose a location that's accessible, has good drainage, and is safe for horses.

Budget: Factor in material costs, labor, and any permits or inspections.

2. Site Preparation:

Excavation: Remove topsoil and any vegetation.

Grading and leveling: Ensure proper slope for drainage.

3. Base Construction:

Sub-base: Create a stable foundation, often with compacted gravel or crushed stone.

Drainage: Implement drainage systems to prevent water pooling.

Base materials: Consider options like compacted stone, free-draining base, or specialized systems like OTTO Sport mats or the Arion ebb and flow system.

4. Footing Installation:

Footing selection: Choose the right type of footing based on budget, intended use, and weather conditions (e.g., sand, mixed footing with additives).

Footing layering: Apply the chosen footing material in layers, ensuring proper compaction.

5. Fencing and Safety:

Fencing: Install fencing to protect the arena and horses.

Safety measures: Implement other safety features, such as warning signs, adequate lighting, and clear pathways.

6. Final Touches:

Landscaping: Consider landscaping to enhance the appearance and functionality of the arena.

Water and electricity: Ensure access to water and electricity if needed.
